Often times we are our worst critics. After all, we live in a world dominated by social media.. where everyone's life seems to be moving at full speed. Most of us find it hard to take time to ourselves because of the guilt for leaving your business/work. Have you ever felt this feeling?
When I first started my real estate career, I was super busy. Living, breathing, doing real estate until I experienced the infamous burn out. Catering to clients day and night, 24 hours a day and not setting boundaries. Experiencing burn outs when working 12-13 hours a day as a server but never as an entrepreneur? It is extremely dangerous. One thing about starting your own business or brand is that there is no one out there that makes you continue but yourself. Lets be real, with a job you have a boss, with your own start-up, all you have is yourself. Burn outs lead to stagnation in almost every aspect in your life and keeps you from fully producing the quality of work you desire.
So what did I do to cure this burn out and maintain my high productivity levels? (No specific order)
Effectively Time Block - Time block is a method of literally blocking out specific times in your day for designated tasks.
Example- 8AM: Following up on Emails and inquiries. (1 HR)
10AM: Social Media Post (1HR)
Aim to end your day around 6PM
And so on..
If your business requires the use of social media go in there with a plan. By the way, in this day and age, if you aren't currently using social media, consider it because you are missing out on a big opportunity to connect with others. Before you open social media, write down what you need to do. If your goal is to have two social media posts a day, go on there, post your post, log off and continue with your schedule. If you catch yourself scrolling, acknowledge that you got distracted, turn it off, and continue with your tasks.
2. Eat Healthy - Eating Healthy is a simple and effective way to balance your energy so that you can get the most out of your day while following your time blocking. You don't have to be a health freak, but for the first meal of the day, eat something that is not greasy and packed with fat. Drink lots of water, and coffee!!!
3. Hang Out With Your Loved Ones - Hanging out with your loved ones is a great time
way to help you regroup. According to a study back in 2011, "Being around your
besties can decrease levels of cortisol (stress hormones) in the body." Friends can also increase your sense of belonging and purpose. Boost your happiness, improve self-confidence and self worth.
Last but not least, end your day by writing down what you are grateful for. Forgive yourself for the things that you were not able to get done and try again tomorrow. The guilt in our minds are imaginary and it is stress that we put on ourselves and to be honest, it does not help our process.
